PM Resources

PM One has no intention of being your "One Size Fits All" stop for project management training, information, or services. Luckily throughout the years I have made many good friends in the business, and I have found that there is no shortage of qualified experts to help you with a specific need.

Likewise, there are many good web sites and training companies available, and we suggest that you look into your options when seeking training or education for your staff.

The following web sites contain great templates, white papers, and tips and tricks for project managers. Click on the company name to visit their web sites.

PST Training

A fine company run by a good friend, Ingrid Tugwell, PST is a leading Charleston area training provider that offers introductory PM courses as well as application training on MS Project. Ingrid treats everyone as if they were her only customer. PST and PM One have entered into a partnership where we provide all of their PMP and CAPM training. We could not have found a better partner than PST!

In 2008 we began teaching PMP classes for PST, and in February 2009 we officially partnered with them. We now provide all of their PMP and CAPM classes, and we proudly refer you to them for MS Project training. They also have a wide variety of other computer and leadership training courses -- we highly recommend PST for your computer training needs!  You will not find a more ethical and professional training company in the region.

Horizon Consulting Group

Another good friend and colleague, Sheri Callahan is based out of Columbia, SC but travels the world delivering training and professional services. A very lively and engaging speaker, Sheri is a great resource to help you bring about change within your organization -- she specializes in conflict resolution, team dynamics, and executive coaching.

PDUs2Go

I met Jennifer Whitt a few years ago while I was speaking at the Altanta PMI PDD. I was impressed by her enthusiasm, passion, and innovative methods she used to deliver project management concepts. Her company offers a variety of fun and easy-to-use "kits" where you can earn PDUs without going to sleep! Who would develop a team building kit called "Pizza Party"? Jennifer, that's who!

Teach Me Teamwork

I've only known Tom Heck for two years, but he has been a pleasure to work with! He has great team building activities on his web site and has a superb collection of CDs that include hundreds of activities. The best part is that he walks you through the activities with step by step instructions AND videos! Tom is also a great speaker!

PMLG.com

PMLG is great company run by my good friend Bill Stewart. Bill is considered a pioneer of the PMO concept and is a leading thought leader on the project management office concept.

Bill runs an excellent summit every year, IPOS, that focuses on the PMO. I believe this is the best summit available for PMOs and their staff...if you can only attend one training opportunity this year, and you are either running or trying to build a PMO, you need to attend IPOS!

SC.GMIS

This South Carolina statewide organization offers FREE project management training about every four months to its members. Membership is restricted to local and state government agencies (and SC.GMIS vendor partners).

PMI Charleston

PMI Charleston is a great way to meet other local project managers, learn new project management techniques, and hear wonderful speakers every month. If you do not live in Charleston, SC, then look for the PMI chapter near you (google works best!).

PMI Global

The leading Project Management organization in the world, and the one that offers the PMP, CAPM, PgMP, and other credentials.

Gantthead.com

Good templates, thought sharing, and white papers.

Projectsatwork.com

Good templates, thought sharing, and white papers.

Projectconnections.com

Requires an annual fee, but well worth the cost.

PMFinal.com

I have known Jeff Campbell, the owner of PM Final, for several years. I have come to trust PM Final as the best PMP prep software available.

An outstanding product run by an outstanding person!

PMexam.com

I have not used their software, but I do receive their daily updates (with daily PMP questions) which I find useful.

RMC Project

Rita Mulcahy is among the leading Project Management experts. Her training and materials are top notch, but are also priced that way! You can often find her materials for about 30% less on Amazon, but check both sites for the best pricing as it varies.

Lisa DiTullio

An interesting web site with downloadable, and free, tools to use to manage projects.

Got A Resource?

If you host a site, or if you know of a site, or know of a resource that may be useful to project managers, please Contact Us and send us the link. We'll review the site and if appropriate add it to this page.

If you have a great book that we should add, send it along with a brief "book report" on it!

Thanks!

Like to Read?

Some good books that we have read regarding project management. Look for "book reports" soon.

Dr. Eli Goldratt

The father of the Theory of Constraints and Critical Chain theories. An interesting fellow to boot!

"The Goal"

"Critical Chain"

Dr. Francis Hartman

A good friend and a project management thought leader! Francis has managed or recovered billions and billions of dollars worth of projects. This book was sold out for years but is now available in paperback from QED. The hardbacks sell for as much as $300, but you can get the paperback version for $50.

"Don't Park Your Brain Outside"

Patrick Lencioni

Not written specifically about project management, but very relevant and easy to read "novels" about teams. Both books are great, and he has others that I have recently purchased.

"The Five Dysfunctions of a Team"

"Death by Meeting"

Andy Crowe

CEO of Velociteach has written a great study-based analysis of what separate the good project managers from the great ones! A quick read, and worth your time!

"What Alpha Projects Know"

Rita Mulcahy

Considered the Queen of Project Management

"Risk Management Tricks of the Trade"

Mark Kozak-Holland

Great PM books based on historical events!

"Project Lessons from the Great Escape"

"Avoiding Project Disaster" [Titanic]
